Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) has been removed from the Google Play Store and Apple iOS App Store. While neither company has issued an official statement on the same, Manish Singh, Reporter at Techcrunch, stated that an anonymous source explained the removal from BGMI was due to an order from the government., "On receipt of the order, following established process, we have notified the affected developer and have blocked access to the app that remained available on the Play Store in India,” he Tweeted.

According to a report from Reuters, the Indian government invoked a section of its IT law to impose a ban on BGMI. The government can block public access to content under section 69A of India’s IT law, in the interest of national security among other reasons. Generally, orders issued under this section are confidential. BGMI publisher Krafton is yet to issue a statement on the ongoing situation.

Battlegrounds Mobile India mysteriously disappears from Google Play Store and Apple App Store

Popular Battle Royale title, Battlegrounds Mobile India was removed from Google Play Store and Apple App Store this evening leaving players and fans in a shock. The game’s publisher Krafton has invested over $100 Million USD in the Indian market, with reported plans to increase it to $140 Million this month. It was also reportedly open to investing another $100 Million in the industry.

Notably, Krafton’s New State Mobile is still available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

In February 2021, Garena’s Free Fire was removed from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, in a similar way, it was later confirmed that the app was banned following the order of the Indian government. However, the government did not provide a reason for the ban and the game currently still remains in limbo.

Following the ban, Godlike’s Coach Abhijeet “Ghatak“ Andhare Tweeted that this was not a permanent ban, and asked fans to hope for the best.

Several other popular personalities also commented on this development, asking their fans to remain calm while the developers figure out a plan of action to address the ban.

Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) was launched by Krafton in June 2021, after PUBG Mobile was banned from India in September 2020. The game had since garnered 100 million registered users by the end of July 2022 and also became one of the first esports titles to be broadcast on mainstream television.
