Activision Confirms Development of New Call of Duty Title for Mobile
Activision has officially announced the formation of an internal mobile studio, which is currently working on a new unannounced Call of Duty title for mobile devices. This will be the second mobile game under the Call of Duty franchise, following the success of COD Mobile that was launched in 1st October 2019. There is no release date attached to the new Call of Duty mobile title which seems to be in its early stages, the announcement being made by company executives during Activision Blizzard's second-quarter earnings call on 3rd August.
New Call of Duty game for mobile under development
The first speculations of a new Call of Duty game being developed by Activision for mobile devices started popping up in June earlier this year, after a job listing was spotted on the company's website.
Immediately word had started spreading around about Activision trying to establish a new internal mobile development studio, in order to build a new Call of Duty mobile game.
Well, more than a month later the speculations have come true as the news is officially announced by the developers. Rob Kostich - Activision President said that,
As we think about long-term, where we see more compelling growth on the [mobile] platform, I’d say we believe there’s an opportunity to better connect mobile to the overall Call of Duty ecosystem and we’re aggressively hiring talent to help on this journey. We’ve created our own internal mobile studio and are driving a major recruiting effort, across Beenox and Activision Shanghai to support as well, and together these teams are leading an unannounced new mobile project in the Call of Duty franchise which we’re very excited about.Rob Kostich - Activision President
Beenox, a Canadian video game development company along with Activision Shanghai, is working in tandem with the new mobile studio created by Activision to develop "the best AAA mobile game in the world".
The job openings are still listed on the website, with the one for a 'Producer - Mobile' stating the developers mission as,
Our first project is a new AAA mobile title in the Call of Duty franchise and we’re looking for great talent from mobile, console and PC backgrounds passionate about their work, who share our belief in what AAA experiences on mobile can and should be.Job Profile - Mission Statement (Activision)
The new Call of Duty mobile game is being developed for both iOS an Android as evident from the job openings 'Bonus Objectives'.
Though no more details have been revealed so far, it is an interesting development that might give us a successor to the existing COD Mobile, a makeover of the popular COD Warzone, or something completely new.
