The LPL officials have placed LGD Gaming’s mid-laner Chen “Jay” Bo under investigation for alleged match-fixing.
This was after “incriminating messages” between Bo and another unidentified person surfaced on social media.
LGD has started an internal investigation to confirm the veracity of the screenshots.

League of Legends Pro League (LPL) officials have initiated an internal investigation of LGD Gaming’s mid-laner Chen “Jay” Bo for suspected match-fixing. The 22-year-old Chinese pro player has been subject to scrutiny following allegations of match-fixing and compromising the competitive integrity of the league. This came to light after a series of screenshots of an alleged conversation of Jay with an outsider surfaced on Weibo, which showed intentions of losing matches deliberately in the 2022 LPL Spring Split.

LGD Gaming wrote on Weibo, “The Supervision Center of the LGD E-sports Club has paid attention to the online public opinion involving player Chen Bo (LGD.Jay), and has opened an internal investigation on April 5, 2022.” It also added that it has reported these allegations to the League of Legends Official Disciplinary Management Committee.

The news was first reported by Korizon’s Kevin Kim, who wrote on Twitter, “LGD has announced that they have informed the LPL Disciplinary Committee regarding this matter and will also undergo an internal investigation.

Screenshots that surfaced on Weibo

As reported by Dexerto, the Weibo account with the username 6199419983 posted various screenshots of texts and voice notes, allegedly between LGD mid-laner Jay and an unidentified person. These messages have been translated and they appear to show Jay negotiating deals with the person about champion picks and also throwing in team fights, to make money off the bets.

According to the screenshots, the allegations revolve around LGD’s match against Bilibili Gaming (BLG) on 20th March and a match against Top Esports.

On Weibo, LGD announced Jay’s suspension and revealed that it is conducting an internal investigation on the matter. The translated texts could also possibly implicate another member of LGD, with Jay saying his “teammates would help him.” However, the veracity of these screenshots has not been confirmed as of now.

The LPL is one of the premier leagues of League of Legends esports and it features 17 teams competing for glory. While every other major region only has ten teams in the competition, LPL boasts a robust, jam-packed schedule and fosters a very competitive environment. LGD Gaming finished in the 16th spot in the 2022 LPL Spring Split standings after ending the split with a scoreline of 3-13.

Jay started his esports career as a pro with TyLoo as a mid-laner. Since then he has played for different organizations including Gama Dream, Vici Gaming, and TWELVE. He joined LGD Gaming in December 2021 and his contract was renewed by the organization in February 2022.

The outcomes of the internal investigation will definitely have a bearing on the player’s career in the LPL and the overall pro scene, considering his stature.
