The League of Legends European Championship (LEC) 2022 Spring Split starts on 14th Jan with 10 teams contending for the title.
The first match of the split is between Team Vitality and MAD Lions. The match will grant us a first look at Team Vitality after it brought back Perkz and Alphari to Europe.
The competitive season will span eight weeks and matches are scheduled between Friday-Sunday every week.

The highly anticipated League of Legends European Championship (LEC) 2022 Spring Split Begins today on 14th Jan with a promising superweek. The regular season will run for eight weeks and shall end on 6th March. It shall follow a three-day schedule from Friday to Sunday every week. The matches will start at 6 PM CET on Fridays and at 5 PM CET on the weekends. The schedule was officially revealed by the LEC on 5th Jan.

The LEC earlier announced that the split will be played remotely, with all ten teams competing from their respective training facilities and gaming houses, instead of the LEC studio in Berlin.

This announcement was made in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in Berlin and the subsequent restrictions.

The LEC Spring Split will showcase best-of-one (BO1) matches for the regular season, with 10 teams fighting in a double round-robin.

LEC Spring Split 2022 - Week 1

Over the off-season, teams have rebuilt their lineups - some making minor changes or rebuilding them from scratch. The first week of any split is interesting to watch as teams come up with new strategies, and fans also get to watch the impact of the pre-season roster changes. This split will also see the introduction of a new team in Team BDS.

With five matches scheduled on all days of the regular season, every team will play three games a week.

LEC Spring Split 2022 -The teams

Following is the schedule for week 1 of LEC Spring Split 2022

The opening match of the first week, dubbed the Superweek, surprisingly is not between crowd favorites G2 Esports (G2) or Fnatic (FNC). Instead, Team Vitality (VIT) will go head-to-head against MAD Lions (MAD) in the first match. Fans will have their first look at super-team VIT’s mighty lineup including mid-laner Luka “Perkz” Perković, top-laner Barney "Alphari" Morris, and attack damage carry (ADC) Matyáš “Carzzy” Orság. VIT brought back Perkz and Alphari from the North American League Championship Series (LCS) for this split. On the other side of the rift, MAD also underwent some big roster changes.

Another interesting match to look out for on Day 1 is the Team BDS and FNC showdown match. With a pretty evident tug-of-war between Team BDS’ top-laner Adam "Adam" Maanane and FNC’s bot-laner Elias "Upset" Lipp following FNC’s struggle at Worlds 2021, fans can expect an electrifying game of League of Legends.

Match of the week

The LEC teased VIT vs FNC as the match of the week on Twitter. With the match closing the second day of the LEC 2022 Spring Split, it will set the tone for the rest of the regular season as the two teams have been declared as the forerunners of the league. Rising mid-lane star Marek “Humanoid” Brázda will lane against Perkz, probably one of the best Western League of Legends players.

Also fans most certainly cannot discount the defending title-holders Rogue Esports (RGE) or the league’s heavy weights G2 Esports. In the first week, RGE will square off against SK Gaming and look to make a comeback after their disappointing Worlds 2021 performance. G2, which built its roster around mid-laner Rasmus "caPs" Borregaard Winther, will look to climb its way to the top of the leaderboard.

Fans can watch the games live on Twitch and YouTube, and also watch the VODs (video-on-demand) on the LoL Esports website.
