Riot Games has officially revealed the new support champion Renata Glasc, who will step foot on the rift with Patch 12.4. She is the second champion to be released in Season 2022, after Zeri, making her the 159th League of Legends champion. From the very first look at Renata Glasc on the promotional website that Riot teased, it became evident that she would put her chemtech technology to use.

With Renata Glasc’s release, League of Legends is finally getting an enchanter champion who is not very “cheery” but instead has a sinister and ominous persona. Renata’s ability kit is designed in a manner that allows her to control the pace of the game and have the upper hand during team fights.

Renata Glasc’s place of origin and her role on the rift

Work for me, or work against me – doesn’t matter. Everyone comes to my side eventually"
Renata Glasc

Renata Glasc hails from the undercity of Zaun and rose to become the wealthiest chem-baron through the use of her parents’ alchemical research. She is the founder of Glasc Industries which hopes “to make chemtech affordable, beautiful, and accessible for all.” Renata is a business magnate who built her power by tying everyone’s interests to her own and has earned the loyalty of Zaun through her benevolence, added Riot.

According to her biography, chem-baroness Renata had a turbulent childhood and grew up around her parents who were dedicated to the study of healing arts. She was quick to realize that she had no aptitude for alchemy but knew how to make profits. She lost her parents and her arm to an attack by the enforcers from Piltover, sent by the elites who were threatened by the research of the Glascs. Over the years, Renata’s products slowly made their way into Piltover shops, making her a successful entrepreneur.

Now, every fashionable Piltovan owns at least one Glasc Industries product, and the wealthiest among them vie to sit beside Renata at novelty galas and the opera house. But Renata’s plan was never to be a chem-baron in Zaun or the corporate darling of Piltover. No, she aims to take Piltover’s source of financial power for herself—the Sun Gate she had dreamed of so often in her youth,” read her biography.

Renata Glasc is an enchanter support champion who can empower her allies, save them from death and cause her enemies to fight each other in a frenzy. As Riot mentions Renata is the “one that truly ran this game, the one calling the shots.”

Renata Glasc’s abilities

Gameplay-wise, Renata’s tryst with alchemy plays into her ability kit, and her abilities are certainly geared towards a supportive role.

Passive - Leverage

Renata’s auto-attacks mark her enemies and deal bonus damage. Damage from Renata’s allies consumes the mark and deals additional damage.

Q - Handshake

Renata sends out a missile from her robotic arm that roots the first enemy hit by it. She can reactivate the ability to throw the enemy in a direction, damaging enemies that get hit and also stuns them.

W - Bailout

Renata Glasc grants an allied champion or herself increased attack speed and movement speed toward enemies. If the ally gets a takedown on an enemy champion, the buff duration resets. If the ally dies while Bailout is still active, their health is set back to full but they begin burning to death over 3 seconds. The ally can stop the burn by killing a champion before they die.

E - Loyalty Program

Renata releases chemtech powered rockets that shield allies, and damage and slow enemies they pass through. The rockets also apply their effects around her upon being cast and also in an explosion at max range.

R - Hostile Takeover

Renata Glasc sends out a cloud of chemicals that causes enemies to go berserk, increasing their attack speed and forcing them to auto-attack anything around them. While frenzied, enemies prioritize attacking their own allies, then neutral units, then Renata’s team, and then Renata Glasc herself.

Renata’s abilities leaked before the official release

Hours ahead of Renata Glasc’s official reveal, social media sites were flooded with the descriptions of her abilities and also shared her basic splash art and her first skin - Admiral Glasc. It has somehow become a routine for champions or skins to get leaked before their intended date of release.

Even before the reveal of the promotional website by Riot, the community had been speculating that the new champion would be called Renata. The first real leaks came through an alleged “skins leak” by Twitter user SybrLoL. The champion was also reportedly datamined from a Chinese mobile game version of Team Fight Tactics, according to a Tweet by user Monstrous Yi.

Looks like everyone on the rift will be bowing down to the Chem-Baroness very soon. Renata Glasc will join the League of Legends champion roster with Patch 12.4 on 16th Feb but will be available for play on the Public Beta Environment (PBE) in the coming days.
