The LPL is the first league to commence its competitive season which will span nine weeks and end on 20th March. Each of the 17 teams participating will play each other once in best-of-3 (BO3) matches to climb to the top of the leaderboard. The schedule was officially revealed by LPL on 31st December.

The first match starts at 10 AM CET every day, followed by the second at 12 PM CET. On days with three matches scheduled, the broadcast starts at 8 AM CET. The matches will be broadcast live on Twitch and Youtube with English commentary.

LPL Spring Split 2022 opening day matches

The first match of the Spring Split is between OMG (Oh My God esports) and TT (ThunderTalk Gaming) on 10th January, followed by the much-anticipated match between FPX (FunPlus Phoenix) and RNG (Royal Never Give up). This will be a rematch of the 2021 LPL Spring Split finals between the two teams. Later on 14th, 15th and 16th Jan, fans will be treated to three BO3 matches.

In the offseason, RNG had signed Chen "Bin" Ze-Bin, regarded as one of the best top-laners of the game, to its roster. Former Worlds Champions FPX also spiced things up in the offseason break with a complete overhaul of its roster after a disappointing showing at Worlds 2021. The new FPX team is built around its attack-damage carry (ADC) Lin “Lwx” Wei-Xiang, the only player to be retained by the team.

Following is the schedule for 2022 LPL Spring Split Week 1

Matches to watch out for in Week 1

JD Gaming vs EDward Gaming - 11th January, 10 AM CET

JD Gaming vs EDward Gaming (EDG) will be an interesting matchup since this will be the first appearance of EDG after Worlds 2021. After a monumental success where it defeated Korea’s DK (Damwon Kia) to claim the title of champions, it announced that it would retain its player roster. Additionally, the team has brought in their former star player Ming "Clearlove" Kai to join the coaching staff as a supervisor. Fans would get a glimpse at how EDG fares against JDG since EDG’s main roster was rested during Demacia Cup 2021, an off-season tournament. Interestingly, JDG signed Wang “Hope” Jie, who was associated with EDG’s development team - EDG Youth Team, as their new ADC. It also brought in Bai "369" Jia-Hao as its top-laner to play alongside jungler Seo "Kanavi"Jin-hyeok. JDG which had a lackluster season in 2021 has to put up a tough show in its first match to remain relevant this season.

Rare Atom vs Top Esports - 12th January - 10 AM CET

Top Esports (TES) parted ways with veteran jungler Hung "Karsa" Hao-Hsuan in the offseason and acquired Gao "Tian" Tian-Liang from FPX. With the likes of Zhuo "knight" Ding and Yu "JackeyLove" Wen-Bo on the roster, TES is regarded as one of the tough contenders of LPL this season. The highlight of the match between TES and Rare Atom (RA) would be whether 2018 world champion Jackeylove can deliver strong blows to his opponents. RA, despite having retained a majority of its roster, was dealt a heavy blow after its mid-laner Chu "FoFo" Chun-Lan left for Bilibili Gaming (BLG). Watch out if RA will be able to match TES’ playstyle in the game.

Weibo Gaming vs Bilibili Gaming - 16th January - 12 PM CET

Bilibili Gaming (BLG) will play its first match of the season against Weibo Gaming (WBG), formerly known as Suning Gaming. But, BLG has been the talk of the town after it signed legendary ADC Jian "Uzi" Zi-Ha and former Worlds champion Liu "Crisp" Qing-Song to be a part of its roster in 2022. Uzi’s first game back in pro play after a hiatus of more than a year will be a litmus test. He will be sharing the role with the aggressive ADC Chiu "Doggo" Tzu-Chuan, who is all set to shine with Crisp as his support. With a promising team, BLG is expected to be a top contender for the spring split. After having swapped out Chen "Bin" Ze-Bin for Kang "TheShy" Seung-lok in the top lane, WBG looks to cement its position in the league with Hu "SwordArt" Shuo-Chieh at its helm.

One other major contender to watch out for this LPL season is Li-Ning Gaming (LNG) as former Worlds champion Kim "Doinb" Tae-sang is expected to bring his magic to the team with the support of jungler Lee "Tarzan" Seung-yong, and top-laner Hu "Ale" Jia-Le.
