G2 Esports Founder Sparks Controversy After Partying With Andrew Tate

G2 Esports Founder and Chief Executive Producer Carlos "ocelote" Rodríguez Santiago has come under fire for posting a video of himself partying with controversial social media figure Andrew Tate. Carlos was celebrating G2’s entry to League of Legends Worlds 2022 with the Tate brothers and posted a video of it on Twitter. He went on to double down on his partying stating that nobody could police his friendships and that he parties with whoever he wants.

Andrew Tate is a former professional kickboxer and controversial internet personality who has made sexist and misogynistic comments about women on social media platforms. He also has been investigated by the Romanian police for human trafficking and by the United Kingdom for abuse allegations against him. He is currently banned from Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and YouTube as a result. 

Carlos responds to criticism on social media

After Carlos’ post of him partying with Tate blew up, a number of people from the esports community called him out. League of Legends caster Aaron "Medic" Chamberlain responded saying, “You posted a video partying with a known misogynist who calls women property. It's misguided at best and engagement bait most likely.” 

In a separate tweet, Medic added, “You could be such a good example of someone who aspired to create something and reached their goals.” Carlos responded to the criticism saying, “Nobody will ever be able to police my friendships. I draw the line here. I party with whoever the f*** I want.” 

 Former CS:GO pro and content creator Mohammad “M0e tv” Assad on the other hand showed support for Carlos. He said, “Carlos, next time please don't hesitate to invite me to one of these. I'm glad theres still someone that can think for themselves in this industry filled with snakes.”

M0e went on to clarify later on that he disagrees with Andrew Tate’s takes on relationships and women whether they are out of context or not. But he feels that Tate’s controversial statements make up a small percentage of what he says and that the social media personality has “good life advice and lessons.” 

G2’s Jakub "Lothar" Szygulski said on Twitter that he is disappointed with the entire “Tate situation” and feels that Tate should not have any platform. League of Legends fans and Twitter users in general are also divided on the topic but a lot of them agree that Tate should not be given a platform in esports. 

Tate has been banned on multiple platforms and EA is allegedly banning players for using the name “Andrew Tate” in Apex Legends. Tate has serious allegations against him and a large number of people do not want to be associated with the controversial personality.
