Former League of Legends Season 2 Worlds Champion Lau "Toyz" Wai Kin reportedly pleaded guilty to drug trafficking in a Taiwanese court, according to Taiwan’s Central News Agency. The former Taipei Assassins (TPA) player was charged with trafficking drugs on the internet and he pled guilty after appearing at the Taichung District Prosecutor’s Office on 16th June. Toyz apologized and urged the public to not indulge in drugs.

Toyz, who was accompanied by his lawyer, also stated that he was under significant pressure after his exit from a rehabilitation center and regretted his exposure to drugs.

What did Toyz do?

In September 2021, Toyz was arrested in Taipei on suspicion of trafficking marijuana, which is classified as a Class 2 illegal drug, according to the Taiwan Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act. Those intending to distribute a Class 2 narcotic can face up to seven years of jail time and a fine of up to five million New Taiwan dollars. After finding marijuana at his residence, the police petitioned the courts to keep Toyz in custody longer for further questioning.

Inven Global reported that Toyz was accused of forming a drug syndicate with some of his friends in the latter part of 2019 and selling products with THC [Tetrahydrocannabinol] on the internet. He was caught after Taiwanese police posed as drug buyers and seven of his other associates were also arrested.

After the Taichung District Prosecutor's Office investigation, 8 people including Liu Weijian were prosecuted on suspicion of drug violations,” stated the report by the Taiwan Central News Agency.

At the court on 16th June, Toyz’s lawyer, Lin Tingyang, pointed out that Toyz has only a middle school education and hails from Hong Kong, and travels a lot between the two places. As a result, he is not familiar with the Taiwan laws argued the lawyer.

Who is Toyz?

Toyz was a professional League of Legends player who was a part of Taipei Assassins (TPA). He was the team’s mid-laner and the team lifted the Season 2 World Championship. Toyz made a mark for himself with his skillful Orianna and Anivia plays and to honor the victory of TPA, Riot Games released a Worlds skin. Toyz has a TPA Orianna skin in the game, which is now a part of the game’s Legacy skin collection and cannot be acquired from the store but can only be crafted through the Hextech crafting process or through Mystery Gifting.
