Apex Legends’ Market Crossover Event: Release Date Revealed

Respawn Entertainment is finally hosting the crossover event with Market (formerly Chinatown Market) after an eight month delay. The crossover event was originally announced in March 2021 but both parties had to call off the event due to feedback from the Asian American community being disapproving of the branding. The event will go live on 9th November and players will have until 23rd November 2021 to unlock the skins.

What is the Apex Legends Market Crossover Event

The Apex Legends Market crossover event is a crossover between Apex and American clothing brand ‘Market’. The event was originally planned for April 2021 but on 16th March 2021, a series of mass shootings occurred at three spas or massage parlors in the metropolitan area of Atlanta, Georgia, United States.

Eight people were killed, six of whom were Asian women, and one other person was wounded. It led to widespread protests throughout the US in the wake of the rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans. Part of the AAPI [Asian American Pacific Islander] was unhappy with Chinatown Market’s branding which led to the company choosing to rebrand itself.

Chinatown Market revealed that its name was inspired by the shops, people, and vibrance of Canal Street and Chinatown in New York but agreed with the Asian American community that it is not a name the brand can rightfully use. The company stated in a tweet “We did not do enough to consider what this name would mean to communities in Chinatowns across the world and we need to take ownership of this mistake. It's time to do the right thing and we are committed to be a part of the change."

Chinatown Market has rebranded itself to Market and the planned skins will finally make their way to Apex Legends. Changes have been made to the skins to reflect the change in branding but it is not known if there will be a Collection event with an associated heirloom or will it be part of a limited-time event with unlockable cosmetics.

Respawn has started teasing skins for the upcoming event and Apex Legends players will be able to get their hands on the new skins from 9^th to 23^rd November 2021.
