Shroud Thinks Valorant Esports Skins Could Work

Twitch streamer Michael ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek believes that content creator skins will not work in a game like Valorant. But he is open to the idea of Riot Games adding esports skins for teams like TSM and Cloud9. Other games like Fortnite and Call of Duty are known for their collaborations with not just content creators but also celebrities and pop culture franchises. Fortnite recently announced its collaboration with Filipino Tik Tok star Bella Poarch for exclusive cosmetics and Valorant fans want something similar. Shroud thinks that offering content creator skins is “dangerous territory” and wants esports skins instead, which could potentially enable fans to support their favorite Valorant teams.
Why is Shroud Against Content Creator Skins in Valorant?
Valorant fans have requested Riot Games to collaborate with content creators like Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys, who confessed that she would be up for it. Since then, there has been a lot of discussion within the Valorant community about potential content creator skins. However, Shroud thinks that it is a bad idea as it will be “challenging” to pull it off correctly. After a fan asked him on stream if he wants his own Shroud Valorant skin, he responded, “As much as I’d love a skin, that’s entering dangerous territory. If you plan only to do it for one or two people, that’s fine. But you have to take that stance to the grave. That’s what makes it so challenging.”
He compared Valorant to PUBG and talked about how the battle royale game tried to get as many content creators to be a part of its skin collections but it did not work out well. Shroud thinks that it is not possible to give skins to every content creator due to the sheer number of creators out there. However, he thinks that Riot Games should work on esports skins. He said, “team skins would work, though. They could easily do TSM FTX, Cloud 9.”
In the FPS genre, Overwatch has its own Overwatch League skins that fans can purchase in-game. A part of the revenue earned from these skins goes directly to the associated teams. Rainbow 6: Siege has similar skins to support its esports community. Currently, Riot Games has not revealed its plans for any esports or content creator skins. But fans constantly bring up the topic and it is possible that the studio will choose to support its esports community and content creators through partnerships for in-game cosmetics.
