Metacon Hosts $50,000 Esports Event Featuring Axie Infinity, Thetan Arena and Spider Tank

GALA Games’ Metacon became the first-ever “metaverse event” featuring a mix of pop culture, tech, gaming, esports, NFTs (non-fungible tokens), art, music and entertainment. The event took place on 28th and 29th May 2022 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. There was an esports event featuring NFT games as well, with a prize pool of $50,000 USD.

Axie Infinity Featured at Metacon

Thanks to a partnership with the Emirates Esports Federation, the MetaArena stage saw eight international guilds compete in the “first-ever blockchain multi-game esports tournament” which featured the following titles:

• Axie Infinity

• Thetan Arena

• Spider Tank

These games featured a total prize pool of $50,000 USD. There were other games included in the event which were community-run. Fans participated in Fight Legends, Swift Blowout and Medabots which did not feature any prize pool.

In addition to the esports events there were three other categories featured at the event. The first was MetaStage, which saw sessions being hosted by members of the blockchain and NFT space. A “Metavator” challenge was also hosted with a pitch competition that allowed innovators in the NFT and blockchain space to pitch their ideas for a prize pool of AED 75,000 ($20,400 USD).

The MetaConnect category featured workshops for people interested in the NFT space and it offered an introduction to the metaverse. One of the topics discussed in the MetaConnect event was the importance of Discord and how it has evolved from being a platform targeted at gaming to one that can be beneficial to the metaverse.

The MetaSpaces category was an exhibition space featuring NFT games and art. The games featured in the event included FOTA, Medabots, Town Star and Spider Tanks, among others.

The highest tier tickets of the event were sold for $136 USD and $204 in limited quantity and they came with special NFT tokens created for the event along with some collector’s items.
