Tundra Esports Ends Team Spirit's Winning Streak to Win OGA Dota PIT Season 5: Europe/CIS

A combination of extraordinary drafting and meticulous gameplay has enabled Tundra Esports to secure the championship title of the OGA Dota PIT Season 5: Europe/CIS. After falling to the lower bracket in the first round, courtesy of Team Spirit, the squad defeated four teams in the lower bracket to not only exact vengeance upon Team Spirit in the grand final, but also win the championship trophy. It seemed like Team Spirit would secure its 13th consecutive series win in the grand final when they won the first game with ease, but Tundra Esports showed its versatility in its drafting for the next three games and caught the enemies off guard, to secure a 3-1 victory.

Tundra Esports are the OGA Dota PIT Season 5: Europe/CIS champions

The potential matchup between Tundra Esports and Team Spirit at the OGA Dota PIT Season 5: Europe/CIS champions was one of the most anticipated. As champions of The International 10 (TI10), Team Spirit proved they were the best, whereas Tundra Esports, despite not qualifying for TI10, had demonstrated the best form in Dota 2 in events leading up to TI10. This had led to a large segment of the community believing that Tundra Esports deserved to be at TI10.

The draw for the event revealed Tundra Esports would face Team Spirit in the first round itself. As it turned out, Team Spirit proved to be a lot stronger and defeated Tundra Esports with a 2-0 scoreline, leading any discussions to the contrary to be put to rest.

Despite its initial downfall, Tundra Esports still had a chance at redemption through the lower bracket in the OGA Dota PIT Season 5. In the lower bracket, the team actually cleared out one opponent after another thanks to the variety of heroes it was able to select in the drafting phase. Tundra Esports defeated NAVI 2-1, Nigma Galaxy 2-0, OG 2-0, and Team Secret 2-0, to set up a rematch against Team Spirit, who as anticipated had reached the grand final via the upper bracket.

Team Spirit won the first game of the grand final with considerable ease, taking it in just 28 minutes. However, Tundra Esports rebounded with vigor to win the next three games. For the second game, both sides fought hard, but Tundra Esports proved to be much more effective in the teamfights, taking it in 38 minutes. In the third and fourth games, Tundra Esports outwitted Team Spirit using a Broodmother offlane and a Death Prophet position four, taking clean wins in the process.

Even though all of Tundra Esports' players performed well, Leon "Nine" Kirilin, their midlaner who has remained under the radar for most of his career, was quite outstanding. His Queen of Pain was particularly exceptional throughout the tournament, as he outplayed the opposition's midlaner and converted an early lead to crucial kills and objectives.

Tundra Esports' top drafts, which made use of off-meta heroes such as an offlane Visage, Broodmother, and Beastmaster, along with unconventional position four and five heroes such as Death Prophet and Dragon Knight, proved to be instrumental to its success.

Tundra Esports now looks to carry this stellar form into the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Western Europe 2021-22, where it currently occupies the fourth position on the points table with two wins and two losses. Team Spirit, on the other hand, is still a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern European region of the DPC, having won three successive series so far.
