Topson Talks About Whether He Will Ever Return to Pro Dota 2

A majority of the players on the OG roster that won two consecutive Internationals (TIs), in 2018 and 2019, are no longer professionally competing in Dota 2. However, speculation about their return is always present amongst the fans. Recently, on OG's Monkey Business Show, former midlaner Topias Miikka "Topson" Taavitsainen, spoke about his return to pro Dota 2. While Topson still loves the game and feels the need to provide for his family with it, he lacks the same level of motivation as some newer and younger players today. If he regains his competitive drive, Topson said that his fans may be able to see him return and play competitive Dota 2 in the future.

Motivation is an important reason for Topson's potential comeback to professional Dota 2

Topson took a break from competitive Dota 2 in November 2021 to spend time with his family. In episode 9 of OG's Monkey Business Show Topson said his plans to return to pro Dota 2 remain unclear. “Having a family and all that, I still feel like I want to provide for the family and I still enjoy Dota a lot but I wouldn’t say right now I don’t know if I would go back to pro anytime soon,” he said.

The primary reason why Topson is hesitant to return to competitive Dota 2 is the fact that he does not possess the same level of motivation as some of the younger players today and that he is not at his peak.

“Because I can see from these new teams and players how they have the motivation and fire that I know I don’t necessarily have right now. So I know it’s gonna be a very tough uphill battle if I were to return. So, I am probably just gonna chill and wait for the moment when I feel like I am at my peak again. And if that ever happens, then you guys might see me again in the scene.”

In the episode, Topson also compared the current fire present in teams like Team Spirit and OG to the feelings he felt two years ago. He stated that despite being “just 23” he is feeling like he cannot catch up to these players who are so passionate about the game that they do everything they can to succeed.

Following his decision to step down from OG's inactive roster, Topson has been livestreaming a great deal on his Twitch channel. His stream, which attracts a number of viewers, features him playing unconventional heroes in the midlane along with a lot of goofing around with Anathan "ana" Pham, another longtime TI8/TI9 OG member who also does not compete professionally anymore.
