Valve has finally confirmed that The International 2022 (TI11) will be hosted in Singapore. Through a video broadcast during the ESL One Stockholm Major 2022, Valve confirmed that the The International 2022 will take place in the Indoor Stadium and Suntec Arena in Singapore.

However, other details about the tournament including the schedule, format, and information about ticket sales were not shared by Valve. However, Dota 2 insider Wykrhm Reddy confirmed that the tournament will be held during October 2022.

This confirmation follows a series of tweets from Valve over the past week hinting that TI11 was going to be hosted in Singapore. This is the first time that TI will be organized in a Southeast Asian country after years of being held in locations in Europe, North America, and China.

TI11 to take place in Singapore

With a video broadcast during The ESL One Stockholm Major 2022, Valve confirmed that the International 2022 (TI11) will be hosted in Singapore.

In the past few days, Valve has been teasing the community with tweets of miniature Dota 2 characters seated and placed in different locations such as on a flight seat, a leaf, and on the sand. Many pointed out that these locations were either related or located in Singapore.

The basic format for an invitation to TI will remain the same with 12 teams receiving direct invitations based on DPC (Dota Pro Circuit) points during the 2021-22 season, and six teams qualifying via regional qualifiers.

The last two teams competing in TI11 will be selected through a last-chance qualifier tournament featuring the second and third place teams from each region's qualifiers. The top two teams from this tournament will also qualify for TI11.

Where has TI been held in the past years?

The inaugural TI was held in Cologne, Germany in 2011, after which the event has been held every year around August. From 2012 to 2017, Seattle was the event's home base before it moved to Vancouver for The International 8 and Shanghai for The International 9. Because of the pandemic, TI had to be postponed in 2020 but returned in October 2021 for its tenth edition.

TI10 was held in Romania in October 2021, when Team Spirit, after a scintillating lower bracket run, won $18,208,300 USD as the champions. There will be a lot of interest in seeing whether TI11 can keep up with TI's annual record for the highest amount of prize money in esports.
