OG has taken their first win towards a spot at TI10 in the WEU TI10 qualifiers, beating Vikin.gg 2-1 in their upper bracket round one series. OG looked to be in dominating form in games two and three despite a shaky start in game one. The recent addition of Syed Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan seems to have brought them back to their TI form as they start strong in their journey to TI.

While Vikin.gg looked strong in the first game, they fell short in closing the series and drop to the lower bracket where they will face elimination.

Recap

Game one saw Vikin.gg successfully execute meta strategies of the Axe carry and Brood offlane. OG picked the unconventional Earth Spirit for Topson in the midlane and while Topson had a top notch performance, Vikin.gg overwhelmed the two time TI champs with their meta strategies

Game two was a full on outdraft and outperformance from the side of OG. OG chose a strategy of picking an Achemist offlane to power up SumaiL’s Medusa hyper-carry. After receiving an Aghanim’s Scepre buff from Alchemist early into the game, OG’s Medusa was over 10k ahead in networth compared to Vikin.gg’s heroes and became completely unstoppable

Game three saw OG repeat their strategy from the second game and picked Achemist again to boost the Drow carry. Vikin.gg had a better idea of plying against OG’s strategy and managed to get some good kills onto OG’s heroes. However, just like the previous game, Drow received a very early Aghanim’s Upgrade from Alchemist and went out of control soon after. OG cleanly executed their strategy and took the series.

Highlights

Here are some highlights of the series.

This strong start is crucial for OG in their run leading to the spot to TI10. OG is no stranger to competing in breakneck circumstances like the TI qualifiers, having won TI8 starting in the qualifiers. With Topson’s recent revelation that this TI might possibly his last, it is imperative that OG find the TI magic that they are so well known for, once more.

However, OG’s road will not be easy as their immediate next series will be a TI9 finalists rematch with Team Nigma who also won their upper bracket series against Hellbear Smashers. The rivalry between these two teams has been the el clasico in the European Dota 2 region and their next matchup will be one of the most exciting ones of the entire qualifier.

You can catch the grand rematch between OG and Team Nigma on July 8, 2021.
