TSM Dota 2 captain David "MoonMeander" Tan Boon Yang recently went live on Twitch for the first time in months. He played multiple games of Dota 2 before playing Heroes of Newerth one last time before the developers shut down the game’s servers on June 20th. Towards the end of the stream, MoonMeander went on to give a passionate motivational speech about never giving up on your goals and working hard.MoonMeander’s passionate speech on hard work and never giving up

MoonMeander has always been one of the most eccentric esports personalities in the world. He wears his heart on his sleeve and doesn’t shy away from speaking his mind. As a result, he has his own legion of fans thanks to his speeches like his iconic “neva eva” comments at the Manila Major.

Earlier this week, in his first stream after securing a runner-up finish at the ESL One Stockholm Major 2022, the North American player gave one of his iconic speeches after multiple fans requested it.

“2016, I won a major with OG,” said MoonMeander who pointed out that he had failed to qualify for The International(TI) four times before finally making an appearance in 2021 through the NA qualifiers and then directly securing a spot at The International 2022 through DPC points. “It took me six years to fill a team to get to the Grand Finals of a Major again. Six years. I am thirty years old now, I am still there and I am still grinding,” he added.

MoonMeander then went on to give some advice about career goals and how people needed to really grind and put in some hard work to achieve success. “It’s not about the destination, it is the journey. And if you guys don’t like what you’re doing, then go do something else. Do something that you’re passionate about. And when you do it, you have got to really put your 200% in it. I am telling you without a single shred of lie in my heart, there’s a lot of lazy moth**f**kers out there in the world. If you guys find something that you really like doing and apply yourself at 200%, you guys will make it. You guys will be millionaires,” he said.

Moonmeander then pointed out that there are too many people who are lazy and trying to take shortcuts to get rich quickly, but that it never works. “You got to just grind slowly, you got to do things that you don’t want to do, you got to wake up early, you got to take cold showers, you gotta eat healthy, you got to do all these things on top of doing your craft perfectly. Then you can live a long and fruitful life where you can look back at yourself and your life and you can be like ‘god damn, I was a GIGACHAD in life,” he added.

“Every man has two lives, and the second starts when he realizes he has just one,” said MoonMeander quoting Confucius. “So go out there my Twitch viewers, and conquer life.”

I fell to the depths of hell, I had to play with f**king random NA stacks. EE ditched me right before we signed with CR4ZY. COVID hit and all the LANs were canceled, I didn’t qualify for a Major for four years and I still kept trying. And here I am today [with] TSM FTX, making the big bucks again, qualifying to TI. But this time, I won’t f**k it up, I am going to stay humble and I am going to keep grinding. And hopefully one day, I can win TI and give the ultimate speech and it will be epic.”

MoonMeander resumes his journey in the North American Dota Pro Circuit on June 11th when TSM takes on The Cut in its opening match of Tour 3. The team has already virtually secured a place at The International 2022 regardless of its performance in this tour, but it will be looking to continue to grind for continued success and book a spot at the PGL Arlington Dota 2 Major 2022.
