During a recent Twitch livestream, Team Liquid's captain Aydin "iNSaNiA" Sarkohi shared how players can increase their MMR.
According to iNSaNiA, players should focus on getting better rather than criticizing their teammates or blaming others in the game.
Other players should be viewed as bots during games, he added, which will lead to the players directing their attention on their own games.

When playing ranked games, Dota 2 players are continually battling for higher Matchmaking Rating (MMR). The average medal tier in Dota 2 is Archon 1-3, which is about 2400 MMR, so many players are significantly below the highest Immortal tier. During a recent livestream, Team Liquid captain Aydin "iNSaNiA" Sarkohi shared how players can increase their MMR. INSaNiA suggested that players should focus on becoming the best versions of themselves, rather than worrying about what others on the team are doing. According to him, other players should be treated as bots during games.

INSaNiA advises players to focus on their own games to increase Dota 2 MMR

When asked by his Twitch chat about the influence of teammates in Dota 2 games, iNSaNiA stated that it is a waste if they crib about losing and having less MMR. If players want to rise up the MMR charts, all they have to do is improve themselves, he said.

“We already had this conversation but I’ll see this one more time because it’s definitely needed again. If you are a Dota player and you are complaining about your teammates, you are wasting your life genuinely. If you wanna get a higher MMR, just focus on what you can do better and try to be the best player you can be."

INSaNiA went on to add that a player who wishes to raise his/her MMR should imagine themselves as playing against bots, leaving themselves essentially devoid of choices which in turn leads you to focus and play your own games,

“And imagine you are playing against bots exclusively like - you cannot control what the bots can do. All you can do is focus on yourself and that’s it, try to get better.”

It's worth noting how INSaNiA argues for focusing on individual improvement in order to earn MMR in a game like Dota 2, which is fundamentally focused on teamwork. However, at the same time, such a strategy is likely to succeed in lower MMR games where players, particularly in the core position such as a midlaner or a safelaner, can win games on their own. However, as a player progresses up the MMR rankings, it gets increasingly difficult to win games just on individual performance as the skill difference narrows.

At the time of writing, INSaNiA is ranked 90th in Europe on the MMR Leaderboards. The player is currently playing for Team Liquid in the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) 2021-22 Tour 3: Division 1 of Western Europe (WEU). The squad currently leads the points table alongside three other teams. Liquid will aim to finish higher up in the standings and qualify for the PGL Arlington Major, where it will get the opportunity to accumulate more DPC points to qualify for The International 11.
