Fnatic is the First Team Eliminated From Gamers Galaxy Dubai 2022
After losing twice to TSM in a row, Fnatic is the first team eliminated from the Gamers Galaxy: Dota 2 Invitational Series Dubai 2022. As the second day of the event approached, TSM, which had lost all three games the day before in group A, had to beat Fnatic, which had one win in three games. Since TSM emerged victorious, it forced a tiebreaker with Fnatic and prevailed over the latter again to keep its tournament hopes alive. As Virtus.pro was removed from the Gamers Galaxy: Dota 2 Invitational Series Dubai 2022, Fnatic finishes ninth in the event, earning around $5450 USD.
Fnatic faces elimination from Gamers Galaxy 2022 after losing twice to TSM
All games in group B had been completed on day one, but on day two TSM battled it out against Fnatic in group A with the tournament hopes on the line. TSM started out this event on the back of a major win in the North America (NA) Regional Finals against Evil Geniuses but failed to show any strength on day one, losing all three games. Likewise, Fnatic had not been too impressive with its solitary victory over Team Spirit.
Despite this, TSM looked well prepared to defeat Fnatic and remain in the running for the tournament. An Io-Mars combo coupled with a mid Leshrac snatched a lot of map space away from the opposition in the first match. Raven did not have enough time to excel as a safelane Phantom Assassin, which would have potentially helped Fnatic turn the game around.
As both teams finished the group with one win each, it was time for them to play one more match to determine who would move on. As both teams went into the match believing in their own plans, TSM's heroes once again outperformed Fnatic's. Fnatic showed some signs of hope, however, it was TSM who controlled the pace of the game to win in 34 minutes.
In addition to keeping TSM afloat in the Gamers Galaxy: Dota 2 Invitational Series Dubai 2022, these two games served as revenge for the loss Fnatic inflicted on the team at The International 10 (TI10). Fnatic had eliminated TSM from TI10 with a comprehensive victory in the first round of the lower bracket.
TSM will now take on Team Secret in the play-in stage of the Gamers Galaxy: Dota 2 Invitational Series Dubai 2022 in order to guarantee itself a place in the lower bracket. While all games in the group stage were Bo1 affairs, the series in the play-in stages and the playoffs will be Bo3. Team Spirit will face Nigma Galaxy SEA in the other half of the play-in stage.
OG, Nigma Galaxy, BOOM Esports, and Tundra Esports were the four best performers of the group stage, earning direct entry into the upper bracket of the playoffs. These eight teams, left in the competition, will be vying for the largest share of the prize money, which is approximately $109,000 USD.
