Fnatic’s wobbly excellence

Together with T1, Fnatic started out the group stage as the frontrunner. With a BO2 series victory over Motivate.Trust Gaming, the team exhibited class in its first series. Fnatic looked in fine shape, but in the following two series, it was crushed by both T1 and Execration, losing 2-0.

With their backs against the wall, Fnatic once again proved its mettle and dominated both Army Geniuses and OB.Neon to win 2-0. Interestingly, the next series against Team SMG saw them being swept as they lost the series in less than 60 minutes.

The final series of the group stage for Fnatic would pit them against the dangerous Galaxy Racer with an upper bracket playoffs spot on the line. The series was one of the hardest fought in the group stage, but Fnatic managed to take it 2-0 to end their group stage on a positive note.

T1’s gradual return to form

T1 looked out of sorts in its first two series of the group stage, losing 2-0 to both Galaxy Racer and Motivate.Trust Gaming. While the team’s drafts and performances were decent, it was the individual plays and positioning from the players that cost them in these series.

T1 then had two drawn series against SMG and Execration. T1 looked good both as a team and individually during the games in which they won, with notable contributions from Carlo "Kuku" Palad and Karl "Karl" Matthew Baldovino.

Finally, in its last three series, T1 found its footing as it beat Fnatic, Army Geniuses, and OB.Neon 2-0. Most of the game wins were comprehensive as T1 lived up to the expectations that many had from them entering into this event.

T1 and Fnatic secured spots in the upper bracket of the playoffs along with Galaxy Racer and Execration. OB.Neon, Team SMG, Motivate.Trust Gaming, and Army Geniuses finish in the bottom four so they will move to the lower bracket of the playoffs. Here is how the table looks at the end of the group stage.

The BTS Pro Series S7: SEA playoffs will begin on 11th Aug 2021, with two lower bracket series: Team SMG vs Army Geniuses followed by Motivate.Trust Gaming vs OB.Neon.
