EG is currently 1-1 in Tour 3 of the DPC 2021-22 and will face The Cut on 18th June as part of its third series.

Evil Geniuses (EG) may not have gotten off to the best start in Tour 3 of the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) 2021-22, losing to nouns, but it came back strong, convincingly defeating Wildcard Gaming with a 2-0 scoreline. Following the series victory, the newly appointed captain of the squad, Tal "Fly" Aizik, who has previously served the organization for a considerable time, went on to describe how his comeback came about. Fly mentioned that EG was looking for a leader following its disappointing performance at the Stockholm Major which is when he was summoned and the squad had a "heart to heart" chat. Fly went on to say that they cleared the air about whatever concerns they had and were now in the process of rebuilding.

Fly discusses his comeback to EG as the captain

Fly commented on his return to EG in a recent post-match winner's interview. He noted that it started with a profound chat, having previously played for a long period with three of the four people on the squad.

“The way I would say how it went down is, you know, EG obviously didn’t do very well at the Stockholm Major and they were looking for a captain. And obviously, I have played with the guys before. I know everyone except Nightfall/Egor so I had a talk with them like - heart to heart.”

From 2018 through late 2021, Fly was a vital member of the EG squad, leading the team to multiple grand finals of prominent competitions like the DreamLeague S13, Singapore Major 2021, and WePlay AniMajor 2021.

As a result of a string of successful performances, his departure following The International 10 (TI10), where even though the team did not give its best performance, came as a surprise.

While the entire squad worked to remedy any concerns, Fly also recognized that he had made some mistakes, leading him to have an open conversation among the players. Following this deep team talk, he mentioned that the team was filled with great positivity as they now work towards rebuilding and returning to peak form.

“We flushed out a lot of things, a lot of the issues we have had in the past and I am someone who is willing to change and look for the better. I have made mistakes in the past, I have talked about them, and I don’t wanna hold any grudges or have any sort of bad feelings left with people anymore in my life so we were able to talk through a lot of the issues we had and I am really happy to be back and it’s like nothing but positivity here.”

Fly went on to say that the squad has changed since his departure about six months ago and that there were aspects where both of them needed to make modifications now in order to be on the same page.

When the team played against Wildcard, EG certainly looked cohesive in its series against them. Wildcard put up a strong fight in both games and managed to get a few important kills at times, but EG managed to keep control throughout and went on to secure the win.

EG now aims to build upon this win and shall face The Cut on 18th June as part of its third Tour 3 series.
