“The #ESLOne Stockholm Major - Join the first Dota 2 Major with a crowd since 2020,” ESL announced on Twitter.

The Major begins on 12th May, but only the last three days of the event (the playoffs) are open to live spectators. The playoffs will take place in Hovet, an arena that is primarily used for ice hockey and other public events in Stockholm. This arena also hosted the 2015 Summer European League of Legends Championship Series.

After DreamLeague S13 Major in January 2020, various top Dota 2 LAN events, such as the Singapore Major 2021, the WePlay AniMajor 2021, and The International 10 (TI10), have been held without live spectators. It has been a long wait, but the ESL One Stockholm Major will finally open its doors to the public who have been eager to watch Dota 2 live.

ESL One Stockholm Major 2022: Prize Pool, DPC Points and Format

The ESL One Stockholm Major 2022 will see 18 teams from six regions competing for a total prize pool of $500,000 USD and 3530 DPC points. Western Europe and China will both send four teams; Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe will send three teams each; North and South America will send two teams each.

Format:

In the group stage (Bo2 single round robin) there will be two groups of nine teams each, with the top four teams moving to the upper bracket of the playoffs and the fifth and sixth teams moving to the lower bracket.

The format chosen here differs from the one listed on Valve's site, in which there are three rounds - wildcard, group stage, and playoffs. Under the original format, teams are seeded into these three rounds based on their ranking in the preceding regional leagues. The regional league for the Stockholm Major will begin for all six regions in March.

More details about the format of the ESL One Stockholm Major 2022 will be revealed in the coming days, but one thing is for certain: the fans will finally be able to watch the best Dota 2 action live and get to meet their favorite players.
