The screening of the Artificial Gamer will have also a Q&A session

Which notable Dota 2 matches have the bots of OpenAI played before?

OpenAI made its first public appearance in Dota 2 at TI7 when it played a 1v1 match against Danil "Dendi" Ishutin, a legend of the game's competitive scene. Dendi played a couple of games against the bot on Shadow Fiend and lost both of them by a wide margin.

A full-fledged OpenAI team, OpenAI Five, made its debut at TI8 when it faced paiN Gaming and Big God. Despite tough competition, the bots lost both games.

In April 2019, OpenAI Five made a return by playing a BO3 series against OG at an event in the Bay Area in San Francisco. The bots were much stronger this time as they cruised to a 2-0 victory. The first game lasted 38 minutes, while the second lasted just 20 minutes. During this event, a co-op match comprising both humans and bots on the same team was also played.

There are also other notable players such as Syed Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan and Artour "Arteezy" Babaev who have faced off against the OpenAI Dota 2 bot in a 1v1 match.

For a look at many of these matches, you can check out OpenAI's Dota 2 library on its YouTube channel.

The Artificial Gamer movie is expected to show how the bots of OpenAI were prepared and improved through machine learning as they made their way over the years, eventually facing and beating OG in 2019.
