After being ignored by several online media portals like Polygon in their ‘best games of the decade’ lists, Dota 2 has finally been acknowledged.

IGN has recognized Dota 2 as one of the best games of the decade in their end of the decade list titled: "The Best Games of the Decade (2010 - 2019)." Their executive editor, Miranda Sanchez stated:

“Dota 2 is complex, it takes an incredible amount of time to even begin to master one of its five roles, but it is not to say that you can't enjoy this game casually and sign in during special events. Dota is tough, but if you're down for the challenge, it'll definitely be a game experience you'll unlikely find anywhere else.

Dota 2's community can be a little hit or miss, but one of the things that I've loved seeing is smaller groups pop up in it that thrive more than most comparably competitive online gaming scenes that I've been part of.

Dota 2 is one of the deepest team strategy games that I've ever played. Since I started playing it in late 2013, I've seen it undergo so many changes that continue to make it an engaging and exciting game to learn. Very few games can offer an experience like that."

Dota 2 is one of the few esports titles featured in this list. Some of the other esports titles included in it are Fortnite, Rocket League and Overwatch.

With Dota 2 continuing to maintain a significant player base (yet dwindling) and a massive revenue stream by virtue of the International Battlepass, perhaps the game can make a mark in the 2020-30 list as well.
