Mayor of Stockholm in Support of CS:GO Major, Highlights Its Positive Effects on Sweden

There is a big question mark surrounding the location of CS:GO's next Major tournament PGL Major Stockholm 2021, as there is no new development in the situation when it comes to Sweden. As reported earlier, PGL's CEO Silviu Stroie has said that they are running out of time and could decide to move the CS:GO Major from Sweden any day now. While the uncertainty surrounding the exception requested to bring players and host the event in Stockholm still looms high, Mayor of Stockholm - Anna König Jerlmyr has shown her support for the CS:GO Major to be held in Sweden.

Mayor of Stockholm Writes Letter to Swedish Ministers in Support of CS:GO Major

Mayor of Stockholm has written a letter to both Minister of the Interior - Mikael Damberg and Minister of Sports - Amanda Lind, in support of hosting the PGL Major Stockholm 2021 in Sweden, as reported by Swedish newspaper Expressen.

Jerlmyr writes, "If CS: GO Major is moved from Sweden and Stockholm, it would be devastating," while also speaking about the time when the Swedish authorities had denied one of the biggest esports tournaments in the world - The International 10, from being hosted in Sweden.

After receiving no new development from the Swedish government in relation to hosting the CS:GO Major, Stroie had stated that PGL was "running out of time".

In what seems like a final attempt to ensure that the tournament proceeds to take place in Sweden, Jerlmyr has highlighted the positive effects that the CS:GO Major can have on both Stockholm and Sweden.

• It would be beneficial for the tourism industry.

• It would lead to good business for both the hotels and the restaurant, which were among the most hard-hit industries during the pandemic.

• She highlighted that the infection situation in Stockholm looks better with over 70% of the population now vaccinated.

After Valve was denied permission to host TI10, the organizers quickly searched for a new location within Europe and settled for Bucharest, Romania. With the situation looking grim for the CS:GO Major to take place in Sweden at this point in time, it will be interesting to see if this hail Mary attempt bears any positive result.
