  • Valve introduces 2 more trade and market restrictions to CS:GO for which they receive a lot of public backlash.
  • Multiple users allege that Valve introduced these changes as an alternate solution to shed some load from their servers.
  • Valve had disabled the CS:GO section of the Steam Community Market for around 7 hours last week due to a "load-related issue".

Valve is on a roll releasing multiple significant updates for CS:GO 2 days in a row. Yesterday, they introduced long-awaited changes to the VAC ban policy concerning Valve-sponsored tournaments, like the CS:GO Majors and RMR events. Today on 17 April 2021, Valve has once dropped a huge update, as they introduce more trade and market restriction to CS:GO. This change directly impacts the trading, buying, and selling of items between players, Steam Community Market, or third party websites. However, the Counter-Strike community is not at all happy with these changes, criticizing Valve for implementing an alternate solution to the server load problem that had resulted in a recent ‘CS:GO Market Sales and Item Trades’ service outage.

Valve implements more trade and market restrictions for CS:GO

In an update released by Valve earlier today, the developer has come forward to introduce multiple trades and market restrictions to CS:GO. This has resulted in a lot of negative backlash from the community members who are not at all pleased with the following changes,

  • Items purchased from the in-game store will not be tradable/marketable for one week.

  • Operation Cases redeemed as an operation reward will not be tradable/marketable for one week.

  • Items received from market-restricted containers will continue to be sellable immediately on the Steam Community Market.

This means that any item purchased from the CS:GO store and any ‘Operation Case’ that is purchased using the ‘Operation Rewards’ also known as ‘Stars’ (that users can earn by completing weekly missions), will not be tradable or marketable for at least 1 week. However, items that users receive from containers that are not tradable or marketable (market-restricted containers), can still be sold immediately on the ‘Steam Community Market’ though still being non-tradable.

CS:GO community reacts to the changes

These changes will surely have an impact on the CS:GO Steam Market and the skin trading business via third party websites, as players would be required to hold on to their desirable trades and market transactions due to the forced restrictions.

But there seems to be a deeper problem, as a lot of CS:GO community members are coming forward to question Valve’s intention when it comes to implementing such changes. Some even alleged that Valve had made the following changes as an alternate solution to its recent “load-related issue”, due to which “CS:GO market sales and item trades” had faced a huge problem last week.

It was quite a serious matter because Valve was forced to “temporarily disable the Steam Community Market for CS:GO items” for almost 7 hours, before finally restoring everything back again.

Valve has not issued any statements from its side on why these additional trade and market restrictions were suddenly implemented to CS:GO, but it seems to have not gone down too well with the regular userbase who are connecting a few dots of their own.
