Female Call of Duty: Mobile Pro Ingrid “SOL” Oliveira Bueno da Silva was murdered in São Paulo, Brazil by fellow esports player Guilherme “Flashlight” Alves Costa who has reportedly admitted to committing the crime.

On Feb. 23, 2021, according to Brazilian news portal R7, SOL had been stabbed to death in the home of a fellow COD Mobile player named Flashlight in Pirituba, São Paulo, Brazil. According to reports, Flashlight allegedly stabbed SOL to death and then proceeded to record a video confessing to the murder on his mobile phone, sharing it on WhatsApp with a group of fellow COD Mobile players.

According to a report from ESPN Brazil, Sol’s murder was apparently discovered on Monday with authorities beginning investigation on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. SOL had allegedly met Flashlight online and visited him at his home in Pirituba. It was there that the victim was reportedly stabbed to death.

The crime surfaced when Flashlight allegedly shared images of SOL’s body in various groups on WhatsApp including ones with fellow COD Mobile pros. One of the groups, The Gamers Elite Organization surrendered the information to the authorities, shared a statement on Instagram, and instructed members not to post any details regarding SOL’s murder.

After these details were revealed, authorities speculate that the murder was premeditated and considered as a case of femicide. According to WHO, Femicide is generally understood to involve intentional murder of women because they are women, but broader definitions include any killings of women or girls.

A report by esports consultant Rod “Slasher” Breslau revealed that Flashlight had apparently sent the video and several other files related to the murder to a professor at the Federal University of Ceará. Prof. Aronavich claims that the files were sent in an email labeled “a commendable act” and that new attacks and murders were also promised.

As the news broke, groups associated with SOL, including Jaguares Esports, mourned for the COD Mobile pro player and called for attention to violence against women in the wake of her murder.

Earlier this year a big movement took place in Brazil to denounce harassment cases within the esports scene.
