Earlier today, the PUBG Mobile Esports team revealed plans to host the PUBG Mobile Global Championship or PMGC at the end of the year. The ongoing pandemic has forced the team reconsider their options and tweak their structure so as to integrate more regions and be able to hold a comprehensive tournament. The first half of the season, called the Spring Split culminated in the World League East and West Divisions with Indonesia's Bigetron Red Aliens and Turkey's Futbolists being crowned the respective champions. However, the second half of the season, which will be dubbed as the Fall Split will not have the World League. Instead of the two divisions there will be one big event where the best teams from each region will be invited. With a prize pool of $2 Million USD, this will be the biggest tournament in the history of PUBG Mobile Esports. The tournament will be officially called as the PUBG Mobile Global Championship Season Zero.
Chinese teams to be a part of Global Championship
While we don't have exact details about how many teams from various regions will play in the Global Championship, we do know that unlike the World Leagues, the PMGC will have teams from China as well. Although not guaranteed, it is likely that the tournament takes place in a LAN environment. However, it is unlikely that there will be spectators at the location and games will be playing behind closed doors. The currently ongoing regional PMCOs will either roll up to regional PUBG Mobile Pro Leagues or bigger PMCO's with multiple regions. Top teams from each of these competitions will get a spot at the Global Championship.
The Global Championship format is likely to be the same or very similar to the one used in the World Leagues. This means that the competition will be divided into the league and the playoffs stage. In the league, the week's play will determine the teams who play in the Super Weekends. At the end of the league stage, the top 16 teams who accumulate the moist points in Super Weekends will move onto the finals. The prize pool will be evenly split between the league and the finals.
