PUBG Mobile India Fact Sheet: Verified Claims

With the return of PUBG Mobile to India imminent, fake apps popping up on TapTap and rumours circulating across social media have left fans high and dry. According to a report by the Times of India (TOI), the Indian government has stated that it may not allow PUBG Mobile to return to the country unless some of its specific concerns are addressed, so there is still a long way to go before the game is back in India. We look at some of the verified claims about PUBG Mobile’s return. 

PUBG Mobile’s Return To India - Verified Facts

• The game is being revamped to include features that address the privacy concerns of the Indian government by conducting regular audits and verifications on the storage systems holding Indian users’ personally identifiable information to reinforce security and ensure that their data is safely managed.
  
  
• PUBG Mobile has toned down the ‘violent’ aspects of the game and made it more PG friendly, now seeking to brand its Indian version as a ‘virtual simulation training ground’, instead of the battlefields in the regular version of the game. All new characters will automatically start clothed. Players will have green hit effects instead of the previous red which resembled blood. 

• A new feature that places restrictions on game time to promote healthy gameplay habits for younger players is also being added. This makes the game quite similar to China’s version of PUBG Mobile, called Game For Peace.
  
  
• PUBG Mobile also confirmed that it would be making a $100 Million USD investment in the country to "cultivate the local video game, esports, entertainment, and IT industries." The company will also collaborate with other local businesses to strengthen itself.

• PUBG Mobile India released a teaser featuring TSM Entity JONATHAN, Kronten, and Dynamo. A full-fledged trailer featuring these three alongside Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi is also in the works.
  
  
• PUBG India Pvt. Ltd, which is a subsidiary of a foreign company has officially registered itself with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs on 21st November. Kumar Krishnan Iyer and Hyunil Sohn are registered as the directors of PUBG India Pvt. Ltd. The latter is the Head Of Corporate Development at KRAFTON Inc. / PUBG Corporation indicating that PUBG India is likely a subsidiary of the above-mentioned companies. PUBG Corp. has begun the process of setting up full-fledged operations within India.
  
  However, this does not guarantee that the game will be approved by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
  
  
• PUBG Mobile India has not officially stated any publishing date for this game and hence, all the date and timelines are speculations so far.
