Valorant Devs Respond to The Increase in Cheaters

Riot Games developers responded to a Reddit thread that was discussing the problem of rampant cheaters in Valorant. Valorant launched last year with its own Vanguard anti-cheat that was supposed to detect any suspicious activity or programs at a system level, but cheaters have been able to bypass the much-hyped anti-cheat program. 

Are Riot Developers Working on Fixing Valorant’s Cheater Problem?

Valorant in its current state is plagued with cheaters, and the developers are trying to crack down on aim botters and wall hackers. Several exploits have been discovered recently that allow players to pull of unintended interactions and some of them will be fixed this week but players using third-party cheating tools are going out of hand. Riot is aware of the issue and shared their thoughts with players. 

RayKay from Riot responded by saying:

“Hey sorry about the cheating we are aware and bans are incoming. While we can never stop all cheating, we want to make sure that it does not affect your ranked progress. Our team is looking to make many improvements this year based on the feedback we received and the hard lessons we learned last year. Keep those reports and feedback coming.”

Riot currently ends matches whenever a player is cheating in a lobby and offending players usually end up getting a ban. However many players have been able to bypass the Riot Vanguard anti-cheat and are still playing on the official servers. Some players reported that they keep facing the same cheaters multiple times despite reporting them and suggested that that the in-game reporting system is not efficient enough. 

After the developer responded that they are working on improvements, many players chimed in to share their thoughts. They want all players who have their MMR affected due to cheaters should be compensated with MMR adjustments. In most cases, whenever a cheater is caught, MMR remains unchanged for players. But if you lose a game to a cheater before he is caught, you may not get your ELO back. But such a change is not a priority for the developers right now with KayKay saying “That is a cool idea, that is something we would like to do but got some bigger priorities in front of it right now.”

Ranked changes are headed our way next week with the new Valorant Episode 2 patch and we will also get adjustments to the anti-cheat for better detection down the line as well, as promised by Riot developers.
