monkaS is a popular emote from the Pepe the Frog meme family.
Its origins can be traced back to 4chan after which Twitch user Monkasen brought it to the streaming platform in 2016.
Some variations of monkaS have been created and used as emotes on Twitch chat, including monkaGIGA, monkaThink , monkaW, and monkaOMEGA.

MonkaS is a popular Pepe the Frog meme emote which gained a lot of popularity on Twitch, Twitter, and Reddit after originating on 4chan in 2011. monkaS shows a wide-eyed Pepe with beads of sweat on his head and the emote is typically used in Twitch chat during moments of high tension in video game matches to express anxiety, confusion, or fear. monkaS, meaning ‘monkaScared’ was uploaded to the Better Twitch TV extension uploader by Twitch user Monkasen in March 2016. The emote’s name is basically a short form of the Twitter user’s name.

Now the emote also shows up often on different Twitch streams because it is quite relatable. monkaS is used to convey fear or anxiety and is generally used on Twitch when a person is nervous, embarrassed, or facing a high-pressure situation. It may be used during clutch moments, or during stressful gameplay moments.

Some variations of the emote have been created and used as emotes on Twitch chat, including monkaGIGA, monkaThink , monkaW, and monkaOMEGA. In February 2018, 11 variations of the emote were ranked among the most used Twitch emotes according to Stream Elements.

Where did monkaS come from?

The emote, monkaS came from on 4chan in a now-archived 2011 thread. It wouldn’t appear on Twitch until 5 years later after an illustration of the emote was uploaded to the FrankerFaceZ Twitch extension. But it wasn’t until Feb 2017, when it was dropped into Forsen’s Reddit page that the emote took off in a big way. On Feb 17th, 2017, Redditor kucykzaglady submitted a picture of the meme emote to the /r/forsen subreddit and in that same month, the emote was also added to the TwitchQuotes database.
