  • Dota 2 Filipino veteran, Teehee, joined Reckoning Esports in January 2021, right before the onset of the 2021 DPC Season 1.
  • Unfortunately for Teehee and his teammates, they were unable to win the open qualifiers and failed to make it to the first DPC season.
  • AFK Gaming had a conversation with Teehee where he talked about his time with the team, his role as a captain, and more.

Teehee, a veteran Dota 2 player from the Philippines, joined the Indian esports organization Reckoning Esports as their captain at the beginning of 2021. Reckoning Esports aimed for a slot in the SEA 2021 DPC Season 1 via the open qualifiers with a revamped roster on deck. Unfortunately, John Linuel "Teehee" Abanto and his teammates were unable to win the open qualifiers and, as a result, were knocked out of the first season of the DPC. Reckoning Esports made some more roster changes after this result and are now gearing up for a better performance in the qualifiers of the second season of the DPC.

In an exclusive interview with AFK Gaming, Teehee talked about his team with Reckoning Esports, his roles and duties as a captain, predictions on the teams from SEA going to the first Major, and more.

A talk with Teehee from Reckoning Esports

Q: Can you introduce yourself to those who may not know you?

Hi, I am John Linuel Abanto AKA Teehee playing as the hard support and IGL for Reckoning Esports. Before playing for Reckoning Esports, I've also had the opportunity to represent TNC Predator, Exclamation Mark, and Smart Omega.

Q: Tell us a little about your journey with Reckoning Esports.

My journey with Reckoning has been quite fun. We started by trying out a lot of players, and now we believe that we have the right lineup, which will help us taste success.

Q: What goals have you set for yourself in this DPC season?

I want to be a more consistent player throughout the season and help my team qualify for the (next) DPC.

.Q: Walk us through your role as a captain. What are your duties in-game and outside?

My role as a captain is to make sure that all the players from our team are on the same page. Our coach 'Dot' and analyst 'Klowrees' help out in making strategies which I make sure is executed in our games. Outside the game, I'm pretty much a chill guy, so I just have fun with my teammates (laughs).

Q: What makes a good captain great?

I think a great captain is someone who is truly capable of understanding his teammates and tries his best to inspire and motivate his team. A great captain also inculcates values and discipline in his teammates. I've had the honor of playing under many great captains, so I try and apply what I learned from them.

Q: Who is the best Captain that you’ve played under? What did they do that set them apart?

Eyyou is one of the best IGLs I have played under. His understanding of the game is excellent, and he was a good communicator.

Q: How has the Pandemic affected the Dota 2 scene in the Philippines?

The pandemic has affected all of the gaming throughout the globe. In the Philippines, it has discouraged sponsors from investing in LAN tournaments and in Dota 2 especially.

Q: When do you expect LANs to return? Do you prefer LAN events or Online events? Why?

Honestly, I have no idea when the LANs will be back, but I do miss playing in LAN events. The feeling of playing in front of a crowd is emphatic, and I love traveling! I also get to eat a lot of international cuisines, so I would definitely prefer LAN tournaments over online ones.

Q: If you were given a chance to compete against any team of your choice, who would it be?

We would love to play against any of the DPC teams from SEA at the moment. It will give us a good opportunity to assess ourselves against the best.

Q: Who do you think has the best chance of making it to the DPC Major from SEA?

Right now, looking at the standings, it’s hard to say, but my best bet would be on TNC or Fnatic.

Q: Who is the clown in Reckoning Esports? What makes them so funny?

I’m the captain and the clown at the same time (laughs). All of us are fun but what makes the team unique is even though we're laughing a lot, we're still professional and focused at the same time.

Q: What does Teehee do when he is not playing Dota 2?

I usually go to the gym to make sure I'm in good shape, physically and mentally. I also love to eat Ramen!

Q: Any words for your fans?

Hi, guys! Thank you to all the fans who are supporting my team and me. Reckoning Esports will surely make a mark in the next DPC season!
