One of NA’s stalwart players, Clinton “Fear” Loomis has just announced that he was taking a break from competitive Dota since the DPC season is not scheduled to start until Jan-Feb 2021. This, of course, likely means that business associates will no longer be competing in Dota 2 tournaments until the return of their captain Fear.

EternaLEnVy’s New Stack

Of course, the talk about Fear’s retirement started after the Beyond The Summit Pro Series Season 3: Americas kicked off earlier today featuring a new team: “Team Zero”.

Team Zero’s roster included former business associates players:

  • Jacky "EternaLEnVy" Mao
  • Braxton "Brax" Paulson
  • Jingjun "Sneyking" Wu

They’re also joined by Sivatheeban “1437” Sivanathapillai and Eric “Ryoya” Dong in their new lineup.

This lead to questions on whether business associates disbanded or if Fear was retiring from professional Dota 2. So the TI5 champion had to step in and clarify his current role with the business associates roster and whether he had chosen to hang up his gloves for good.

Fear Confirms That He is Taking A Break From Competitive Dota 2

Responding to queries on why he isn’t playing in the BTS Pro Series Season 3: Americas, Fear said. “I decided to take a break from competitive for a little since DPC isn’t starting until Jan-Feb of 2021. The team wanted to keep playing regardless (3/5 of the roster) so they made a new team. Best of luck to the guys.”

Earlier this week, Fear expressed his disappointment with the Online tournaments that were taking place in place of the DPC.

However, it is unclear whether he will only return when the DPC resumes or whether this is a shorter break. The status of David "Moo" Hull, the other business associate player who did not join EternaLEnVy’s new stack is also unclear.

Fun Fact: The 'business associates' moniker started as a joke when carry player Moo asked Fear, "We are friends right?", to which Fear replied: "No. We're just business associates."

Valve’s recent update on the DPC stated that the North American, South American, and Southeast Asian regions comparatively have fewer tournaments to look forward to, in the near future. So Fear’s absence might not really be too profound in the NA scene. He might be back, relatively sooner than we all expect.
