Omega League Will Return For Season 2 in October 2020

The WePlay! Omega League finally came to a close earlier yesterday with Team Secret claiming the victory.

The month-long tournament was a monumental success in the eyes of the fans, with some scintillating action and great production combining to produce one heck of an event. So fans were clamoring for another event of this magnitude. Well, it looks like WePlay! and Epic Esports Events listened. They’ve just announced the schedule for the second season of the Omega League.

What? WePlay! Omega League Season 2

When? Qualifiers will begin on 28th October 2020 with the tournament taking place in some form until 13th December 2020.

Where? The tournament, as expected, will take place online.

Format changes for the second season:

The Omega League Season 2 will see the total teams for the Immortal division drop from 12 to 10, with all the teams playing in a single group in the group stage of the tournament. This will increase the number of matches in the group stages from 30 to 45.

This time, the teams in both the Immortal and the Divine division will have a chance to compete in the playoffs. While the Top 4 teams in the Immortal Division group stages will qualify for the Upper Brackets in the playoffs, teams placing 5th-8th will compete against the Top 4 teams in the Divine Division for spots in the Lower Brackets.

The losing teams will enter the Divine division’s playoffs and play for that second prize pool against the 9th and 10th-placed teams from Immortal and the remaining Divine teams who didn’t move into that second group for play-ins.

Over 400,000 viewers tuned into watch the Grand Finals of The Omega League: Immortal Division between OG and Team Secret, making it the most viewed online Dota 2 tournament in history.

Alliance, Team Liquid, Nigma, OG, and Team Secret have already been confirmed as competitors in the next season of the Omega League: Immortal division. More details about the event, including broadcast, talent, and other rule changes are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
