  • Flashpoint has taken a decision to allow a rematch between Ninjas in Pyjamas and Anonymo, following an official complaint by NIP.
  • The community has not received this news well calling it an unfair decision on Anonymo's part, while blaming Flashpoint for not rescheduling the original match.
  • Here are some reactions from professional players, talents, and renowned community members on the rematch controversy.

The CS:GO community was not at all pleased to hear that Flashpoint had taken a decision to replay the match between Anonymo Esports and Ninjas in Pyjamas, 3 days after the original match had taken place. After NIP had submitted extensive proof to the tournament organizers of the lag issues that they had faced in their initial clash, Flashpoint after conducting their own tests and analysis came to a decision that the match would be replayed. The final decision of the rematch format was however left upon Anonymo to decide, whether they wanted to play the complete BO3 series or just the final map.

No decision about the rematch has been made by Anonymo till now. However, the community members including professional players, talents, and other renowned members have come forward to give their opinion on the matter. Let’s take a look at what a few of them had to say about this rematch controversy.

Update: Flashpoint released an update stating that a rematch will take place between NIP and Anonymo on May 18 at 21:00 CEST (00:30 IST). The two teams will go up against each other on Mirage, playing just a single game decider.

Community reacts to NIP vs Anonymo rematch controversy

The Brazilian star and senior Team Liquid member Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo came forward to indirectly give his take on the situation by sharing a personal anecdote from Flashpoint Season 1. His final take on the matter was that the replay should never have been offered. He said this because according to him, playing the entire series and then looking for a solution later is not the way to deal with the issue.

Astralis IGL Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander straight as an arrow stated that “If I was Anonymo I would have said no thanks to a rematch”. The Dane even put up a thought asking that he would like to know what NIP and Flashpoint could have done to make Anonymo say ‘Yes’.

Renowned esports journalist Richard Lewis put forward a hard-hitting question basically asking that if Anonymo was asking for a rematch against NIP would they be getting this chance?

Heroic IGL Casper "cadiaN" Moller had a strong opinion as he openly stated that Flashpoint despite having made a decision earlier, went public with it only 30 minutes before the game was scheduled to take place. He also revealed that Flashpoint apparently denied any contact with CSPAA.

Senior ENCE IGL and Rifler Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer was strictly against the rematch taking place, as he went on to state that “Not today, not next week”. However, he also acknowledged the fact that NIP was also not treated fairly during the original matchup.

One of the best CS:GO players from NA Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski while calling everyone stuck in this situation a sore loser, blamed the whole situation on the decision to play the original match in the first place. He believes that the match should have been postponed as NIP was continuously facing a packet loss issue.

Former CS:GO player and now a Valorant player for 100 Thieves Nicholas "nitr0" Cannella trolled the decision made by Flashpoint by comparing it to his own situation. He joked that if it is not too late he would like a rematch for a chance of making it to the VCT 2021: Stage 2 Masters - Reykjavík, due to lag.

The latest player to become a permanent member of Astralis’ active CS:GO roster Lucas "Bubzkji" Andersen was quick to react in his usual style with a banger meme.

Popular esports community figure Jake Lucky also served his take on the matter in a form of this hot tweet, as he jokingly stated that FaZe Clan was trying to replay the finals of the ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018 due to the NA crowd noise being a distraction.

From the reactions listed above and just going through the public reactions in general, the majority of the community is not happy with Flashpoint’s decision to hold a rematch between NIP and Anonymo. While most of them acknowledged the fact that what transpired with NIP in the first place was also not fair, doing two wrongs would not be making the situation any better.

The common takeaway from this rematch controversy is that the BO3 series should have been rescheduled as soon as the tournament organizers and NIP were not able to reach a proper solution. This would have avoided any sort of conflict while also giving time to everyone to find out and fix the problem by its roots, which would have resulted in a fair match between the two sides.
