IEM Katowice 2021 has achieved a fantastic viewership metric following the live broadcast of Na’Vi vs Team Liquid’s ‘Group-B’ upper bracket finals, which witnessed a peak of 596,585 concurrent viewers on Feb 21. The series was streamed on ESL Counter-Strike’s Twitch channel and is now the third most-watched online CS:GO match of 2021, so far. This action-packed series has successfully overtaken the previous record of 592,089 concurrent peak viewership, which was also observed during a match between Liquid and Na’Vi in their lower bracket faceoff at BLAST Premier: Global Final 2020. The classic rivalry between these CS:GO teams might break all online viewership records if they meet in the grand final of Katowice on 28 Feb.

Na’Vi vs Liquid garners over half a million concurrent viewers

Over half a million viewers tuned in live to watch the best-of-three match between North America’s finest, Team Liquid, and CIS’s number one team, Na’Vi. The game was definitely one for the books and justifies why so many people were interested to see one of the best rivalries in CS:GO history live on Twitch.

The three-game series which went down to the wire concluded with Team Liquid claiming victory over Na’Vi, breaking the CIS squad’s exciting 10 match win streak that had begun in January earlier this year along with their lower bracket run to victory at BLAST Premier: Global Final 2020.

The record-breaking match took place in the ‘Group-B’ upper bracket finals of IEM Katowice 2021: Group Stage and was perhaps one of the best series of the tournament. Both the teams won their respective map picks in close maps, taking the series down to a decider on Inferno which itself went into double overtime. Somehow Liquid managed to keep it together and fought their way through to win the map ‘22-19’, directly securing a semifinals slot in the playoffs.

With a peak of 596,585 concurrent viewers, the series has now become the fourth most-watched online CS:GO match of all time and the third most-watched online match of 2021. The fact that Na’Vi was the most popular CS:GO team last year with a combined total of 61 million hours watched is a clear indication that the CIS giants are bound to attract huge number of viewers, especially against their classic rivals Team Liquid, Vitality, and Astralis.

The fact that the most watched online CS:GO matches of all time have Na’VI as a constant only proves the accuracy of the above statement.
