Virtual knife skins are some of the rarest and most expensive cosmetic items present in the popular online tactical shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. So naturally, their demand is quite high among the dedicated player base who are always on the lookout for a good deal to grab their favorite items.

A CS:GO player has to be extremely lucky to get a CS:GO knife as a drop while unboxing a cosmetic case. This is the primary reason why they are so valuable and fetch such a high price. However, owning such expensive and rare items means that the users are susceptible to various types of scams and need to be very careful while selling or trading them.

An online fraud took place with a CS:GO user in the city of Pilsen, Czech Republic. The user was trying to sell his CS:GO knife skin ‘Talon Knife | Fade’ and found a buyer online over the internet. A deal was struck between them for $1400 with the buyer paying a deposit of around $186, this was followed by the user transferring the CS:GO knife skin over to the buyer who has since ghosted this user.

Upon receipt of the virtual knife, the buyer had to pay the remaining amount of the total price to the injured party's account, which the seller has not received to date. Police officers in the case have initiated criminal proceedings on suspicion of committing fraud, and they are further investigating the case.”

An investigation into the matter is currently going on and if the online fraudster is found the police, he/she could be liable to a punishment of up to eight years in the prison, according to the laws of the Czech Republic.
