ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND CS:GO Festival 2020: South Asia
The $1,500 USD South Asian regional tournament of ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND is all set to take place this weekend. A total of 8 teams will be participating in this tournament, 4 direct invites and 4 more teams making their way through the open qualifiers.
The directly invited teams are 2ez Gaming, BL4ZE Esports, Reckoning Esports, and Wicked Gaming, while the teams making their way through the open qualifiers are Wasted Potential, Headshot Esports, VIBE, and Fit For Esports. All the participating teams are Indian except for BL4ZE Esports that have a few international players on their roster.
Open Qualifiers
The open qualifiers which took place from 16-24 Jan witnessed participation from a total of 83 CS:GO teams. Each match was a single game affair and a loss resulted in direct elimination from the draw, so the 4 teams that qualified really had to slug it out hard in order to reach the playoffs stage.
It is unclear who won the finals between Wasted Potential and Headshot Esports, but the two of them were the finalists of the open qualifiers. VIBE and Fit For Esports lost to them in the semifinals respectively, but as the top four teams were qualifying for the playoffs stage they also made it through.
Playoffs Stage
Though the brackets for the playoffs stage is still not set the event is scheduled to take place from 29-31 Jan. We will be witnessing a best-of-three matchup between the teams in a single-elimination format, replacing the initial best-of-one format across a double-elimination bracket.
This makes every match a bit more challenging and gives teams a chance to bounce back in the same game rather than just give up and then try to make it through from the lower bracket. The favorite team to win this regional tournament is of course BL4ZE Esport, but it would be interesting to see what damage can the teams coming from open qualifiers can do.
With the culmination of the South Asian regional tournament this weekend, we will reach the final leg of ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND CS:GO Festival 2020, which will finally come to an end in the second week of February when the Middle East crowns its champion on 14 Feb.
