The final day of TI8 came with a big announcement as Valve announced that in 2019, TI9 will be held in Shanghai. After 8 successful editions, The International will be held in Asia for the first time and only the second time outside North America. After TI1 in Cologne, Germany, the next 6 TI’s from TI2 to TI7 were held in Seattle. Out of these TI2 and 3 were held in Benaroya Hall while 4,5,6 and 7 took place in Key Arena. This year, TI8 moved out of Seattle to Vancouver where it is currently being held in Rogers Arena.
This comes as big news for Asian Dota fans as for the first time ever, Dota’s grandest event will be held in their continent. Not only will it be easier for Chinese and South-East Asian Dota to watch the event, the popularity of the game in the region will surely make for a real hype event. As per the announcement, 2019 will see TI9 being held at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai.
