The Champions Stage of IEM Katowice 2019 is well on its way with the second day witnessing MIBR go up against Renegades while Astralis take on NiP after the first day saw a phenomenal performance by ENCE eliminating Liquid as FaZe collapsed against Na’Vi.
A Memorable Run Comes To An End
Renegades went up against MIBR after making their way onto the Champions Stage for the first time ever. It has been an incredible run for the team from down under but today they were not able to pull their weight through as MIBR owned them on Dust 2 and though Renegades were off to a strong start on Train, they were not able to see themselves through.
Dust 2 was a horrible collapse for the Australian side who managed to win just five rounds playing T-sided. MIBR were not too good on the defence but instead showcased some phenomenal retakes, not once but five times in total.
After a horrible first half, the defeat was well on the cards as MIBR hit the sites hard in the second half to secure the win.
Loosing on their own map pick was a huge blow for Renegades as they went on to play some incredible rounds on Train, shaking up the Brazilians pretty good who were down ‘11-4’ at halftime. But Fallen and TACO rose up to thwart all attempts made by Renegades to take a map off them, as they hit back and successfully mounted their comeback to take the match away from the Australians and secure themselves a victory over them, moving on into the semifinals.
With this the dream run for Renegades has come to an end, it would have been truly wonderful to have seen them qualify but this has been one hell of a knock from them considering the new type of seeding employed in the group stages.
NT @Renegades. I don't see this as the end of the run, more like the beginning of something potentially great.— Bleh (@OfficialBleh) March 1, 2019
But what a fantastic series from @mib! They're looking very dangerous all of a sudden! #IEMKatowice
