Qatar to host $10 Million Esports tournament starting from November 2019

Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) in partnership with Wega, just announced a massive $10 Million esports tournament: The Qatar eSports Aspire Wega World Cup which will be held in Doha, Qatar starting from November 2019.


The Qatar eSports Aspire WEGA World Cup will be held on November 15th in Qatar and will continue for four consecutive years in line with the upcoming 2022 World Cup. The tournament will be hosted annually in conjunction with a 40-day esports festival in the Aspire Zone.


“At AZF, we are constantly innovating to become the reference in sports excellence worldwide by 2020.said Abdullah Nasser Al Naemi, Director-General of Aspire Logistics. “The electronic gaming industry is currently one of the fastest-growing industries in the world, with an annual growth rate of 40 percent. Building on the success of Qatar’s national team during the AFC Asian Cup earlier this year, we are now expanding into this exciting new sports entertainment field.”

According to the announcement, the esports World Cup will not consist solely of esports, but will also “integrate various cultures and ideas among participants.”


Format and Prizepool


The tournament will feature a $10 Million prizepool and will feature FIFA (on both Xbox and PS4), Fortnite, League of Legends, and Dota 2 as the official esports titles.

Every year, starting from November 2019, a tournament will be hosted. 8 finalists from each year will move on towards the grand finals. The 32 players will then compete in the Grand Finals (in 2022) which will be held live at Qatar’s new esports and entertainment arena in Doha which is estimated to house around 80,000 fans.
