In the final Minor of the 2018-19 DPC season, Alliance have been making things hard for themselves. They’ve been through the gauntlet pushing every single series to full BO3s in their road to make it to the Epicenter Major. They’d follow the same trend in the Grand Finals as well. Facing NiP, they went toe to toe pushing the series to a full BO5.
After their loss to Alliance in the upper bracket finals, NiP had to face Team Sirius for the chance to redeem the messy series they played. Their win was quite straightforward as they bested the Chinese team with relative ease, securing two back-to-back victories in 38 minutes each to book their place in the Grand Finals.
That set up the rematch between the two top teams at the event. With over $125,000 on the line, both teams put on a hell of a show.
In the first game of the series, the Alliance took the lead. Lead by Swedish Michael "miCKe" Vu's Troll Warlord, who finished with a K/D/A of 12/0/22, Alliance beat NiP after a 44-minute brawl fest. They simply outexecuted NiP in the clutch, in Game 1.
In the next match, NiP struck back with a fury. In just 30 minutes, Peter "ppd" Dager and his men tied up the series, with complete domination. Adrian "Fata" Trinks played like a man possessed on his Mirana, hitting arrows all across the map and almost single-handedly won the game for NiP, to even the series 1-1.
The third match was also won by Ninjas in Pyjamas, who took the lead in the series. The Alliance started off well in the early game, with a 6-0 kill score in less than 5 minutes, but NiP managed to reverse the situation in the later stages primarily thanks to Fata’s great movement around the map. In 34 minutes NiP destroyed their opponent’s Ancient, opening up a 2-1 advantage.
The fourth match, was definitely the match of the tournament. It was a thrilling back and forth game with both sets of players making some unbelievable plays. But Michael "miCKe" Vu was the standout player, this time with his Juggernaut putting up a ridiculous 14/2/18 score, and turned the game in Alliance’s favour at the end, tying up the series and forcing the final deciding game.
The final game of the Minor would see Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard pick up his signature Meepo for NiP. He simply styled on Alliance with impeccable micro and destroyed the Alliance’s barracks in just 25 minutes. Alliance fell apart following this, conceding the intense series.
With that, Ninjas in Pyjamas have won the StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 2 and earned 120 Dota Pro Circuit points. The runner-ups - Alliance - got 100 points and moved up to 14th place in the DPC rankings. Both teams will participate in EPICENTER Major 2019.
While NiP have already qualified for TI9, Alliance still have a tough road ahead. Here’s how they can make it to TI9.
