eXTREMESLAND 2018 - Chiefs Win Big At The Melbourne Esports Open

The ANZ Regional Qualifier for ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND 2018 was hosted as a part of the Melbourne Esports Open

The 4 team LAN event was being hosted at the Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne. Grayhounds were one of the invited teams but couldn’t attend the event as they were away competing at the DreamHack Masters Stockholm.

The 4 teams attending the Qualifier were: 

  • Chiefs 

  • Tainted Minds 

  • ORDER 

  • Legacy

The LAN event which featured a BO3, single elimination bracket witnessed Chiefs go up against Legacy in the first semifinals whereas Tainted Minds were up against ORDER.
Semi-Final 


Chiefs v/s Legacy

The first match in-between Chiefs and Legacy took place on Mirage which Chiefs won pretty easily with a score of ‘16-7’. The second match went down on Cache which was a really close game as Legacy gave Chiefs a hell of a time taking the match into overtime but Chiefs managed to secure the win with the scores reading ‘19-16’.

Taking the series ‘2-0’, Chiefs move onto the Grand Finals.

Tainted Minds v/s ORDER

The first match witnessed Tainted Minds winning almost effortlessly with a score of ‘16-5’ on Dust 2. The second match was fought on Cache where ORDER equalized the series with a score of ‘16-11’. The decider was played on Nuke where Tainted Minds won the third match escaping an overtime as ORDER tried hard to make a comeback losing with a score of ‘16-12’

Winning a hard-fought series ‘2-1’, Tainted Minds move onto the Grand Finals.


Grand Final 


The grand finals witnessed Tainted Minds taking on Chiefs. The first match between the two was played on Inferno which was won by Chiefs with a score of ‘16-7’ while the second match was fought on Mirage which saw another overtime being managed by Chiefs as they won the match ‘19-16’


 

Chiefs took down Tainted Minds ‘2-0’ to represent the Oceanic region in the Main Event at Shanghai while also getting a chance to compete for the $100,000 prize pool.
