Last week, TNC Predator withdrew from ESL One Hamburg 2018, with short notice. With that, the hunt began for the new SEA Champion for Hamburg and who better than the 2nd place finishing team, EVOS Esports. Yesterday, ESL announced EVOS Esports had secured their visas and will attend the tournament.
This is a huge opportunity for the relatively unknown Indonesian squad. The core of the team has been around for a few years now but have never before made it to an international LAN. Expectations on the team are therefore very low. That being said, we've had plenty of underdog stories before in Dota and the team will surely prepare harder for Hamburg than ever before.
Alongside the announcement of TNC’s replacement, the group stage draw was also announced as well as the schedule for day 1 of the event. With the new format in place, each and every team will play 10 games in the group stages after which the top 4 teams from each group will move on to the playoffs – while the bottom 2 teams from each are eliminated.
ESL One Hamburg begins Oct 23 and will run through that entire week.
