Chinese representatives ViCi Gaming and Team Aster finished 2-0 on both their matches, finishing the first day of a three-day group stage at ESL One Hamburg with 4 points. They were stellar and were clearly a step above the other teams from other regions as they took down their opponents with ease.

The rest of the teams will have to improve upon their performances by quite a margin in order to catch up with the Chinese. Here’s how the Groups transpired on Day 1 of ESL One Hamburg 2018.

Group A

ViCi Gaming leads Group A with 4 points after beating paiN Gaming and Alliance 2-0. While paiN Gaming presented little to no challenge against ViCi Gaming, Alliance almost took down the Chinese juggernauts in Game 1. Unfortunately, a series of great RPs from Yang, turned the tides securing the win for the Chinese.

SEA’s direct invite, Mineski was quite poor on Day 1 as they only managed to win 1 game out of the 4 played on Day 1. Mushi and company struggled to gain their footing and will need to step up their gameplay on Day 2 if they hope to make it out of their Group.

Alliance and paiN also finished the day with a 1-3 scoreline, while EG and Team Secret played significantly better, securing themselves 4 points each.

Group B

Team Aster beat the CIS juggernauts Virtus.Pro 2-0. The first match was a back and forth action-packed match which nearly lasted an hour and saw Aster stage an incredible comeback to take the game, while the second match saw Team Aster make a statement as they picked apart Virtus Pro to clinch a convincing 2-0 victory. before another 2-0 against PPD’s NiP.

SEA Representative EVOS Esports, took 1 game off Complexity but lost the other two games finishing with a 1-3 record at the bottom of the table.

Forward Gaming also underperformed going 1-3 after losing 0-2 against VP and tieing 1-1 against Complexity Gaming. Complexity, NiP and VP are all well within reach of the top spot and a good performance on Day 2 will push them to the top.

The group stage will continue for two more days and the bottom two teams from each group will be eliminated by the end of it. The action resumes today at 16:30 IST with Group A's matches.
