For the third year in a row, Mountain Dew will be hosting their annual esports tournament, Dew Arena. Much like the last 2 years, a large chunk of the INR 20 lakh prize pool, INR 15 lakh to be exact is devoted to CS:GO and Dota 2 with the rest spread among titles like Rocket League, Street Fighter and mobile games.
Last year we saw Aggressive 5 pick up the trophy for Dota 2 and Entity Gaming for CSGO. None of those lineups exist anymore with Aggressive 5 disbanding as an org and Entity gaming picking up a new roster. To be fair, they did pick up HunTr and Excali who were in the winning lineup last year very recently. This year it could well be Signify or the ROG TiTans who look like the best teams in the country for Dota. In Counter-Strike, the new ETG lineup, OpTic India, Brutality and 2ez Gaming all look capable of challenging for the trophy.
The majority of the competition will be online, with only the two best teams invited for the LAN finale, which will be in October in Delhi. This means that only the two Dota 2 finalists and the two CS:GO finalists will make an appearance at LAN to challenge for the trophy. The breakup of the prize money is as follows:
1st prize: INR 6 lakh + bottle presence
2nd prize: INR 1.5 lakh
The exact dates for the LAN finale are yet to be announced. The last day for registering for the online qualifiers is 11th of July.
