Apex Legends Mobile to Shut Down in May

Electronic Arts (EA) revealed that it is scrapping its plans to release Battlefield Mobile and the publisher will also be sunsetting Apex Legends Mobile in May. All in-game purchases will be blocked for Apex Legends Mobile until the game’s end of life and it is no longer available to download. If you already have the game installed, it will continue to be playable until 1st May after which the servers will be shut down for good. 

EA and Respawn clarify what will happen to existing players

EA will not be offering any refunds for real money purchases. For any other refund requests, players can request refunds via the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Your existing in-game virtual currency balances will persist in your account and can be spent on in-game content between now and 4 PM PDT on 1st May 2023. You’ll be able to enjoy all previously purchased and unlocked in-game content throughout the ninety (90) day sunset period as well.

The Apex Legends Mobile Web Store will no longer be accessible, and all game content sales on third-party web stores will no longer be available. Apex Legends on PC and console will not be affected by the move. This decision for Apex Legends Mobile is platform-specific and is independent of the game on PC and Consoles. EA has stated that “as a franchise, Apex Legends is strong and we’re looking forward to sharing exciting updates in the future.” 

Respawn Entertainment revealed in a blog post, “At Respawn, we aim to provide players with games that are consistently outstanding. Following a strong start, the content pipeline for Apex Legends Mobile has begun to fall short of that bar for quality, quantity, and cadence. It is for this reason, after months of working with our development partner, that we have made the mutual decision to sunset our mobile game.”

The developer clarified that it is proud of the game that was launched and thanked the Apex Legends community for the support it has shown to the game. The developers feel that it is the right decision for the players. Apex Legends on PC and console is one of the biggest sources of revenue for EA and the publisher is also looking to release a single-player game set in the Titanfall/Apex universe as well as more Titanfall content within Apex Legends.
