DreamHack Hyderabad and Other Remaining DH Events Postponed to 2021

Published On:
  • All DreamHack 2020 tournaments have been postponed until 2021.
  • This includes DreamHack Hyderabad as well which will not be taking place this year any more.
  • DreamHack will continue to conduct a few other online tournaments in 2020.

The ongoing pandemic has had a massive impact globally, affecting the esports industry as well. One of the biggest tournament organizers in the world DreamHack seems to be going through some tough times as it has postponed all its remaining 2020 festivals until next year.

A few months back DreamHack had postponed four of its tournaments which included DreamHack Summer, DreamHack Dallas, DreamHack Valencia, and DreamHack Montreal. At the time the organizers had decided to go ahead with a few other tournaments, moving them online under the name of DreamHack Open Summer.

But now it seems that the organizers are not too keen on going ahead with any of the scheduled tournaments anymore, deciding to move them until 2021 due to the current situation as things have not improved a whole since their last update.

DreamHack Postpones Remaining Events

The tournaments which have been affected by this decision are DreamHack Hyderabad, Rotterdam. Atlanta, Winter, and Madrid. According to the organizers “The decision was made as the world continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic -- events of these magnitudes are not possible at a time when health and safety is the priority.”

DreamHack Hyderabad

DreamHack first came to India in 2018 with DreamHack Mumbai which was followed by Dreamhack Delhi taking place last year. During the event, it was announced that DreamHack would be returning to India in 2020 as well with the tournament scheduled to take place in the city of Hyderabad.

Though the schedule was changed once in May earlier this year people were still hopeful for the tournament to take place, but as the situation in India has still not stabilized it only seems fair that it takes place later once everything is perfectly safe for everyone.

DreamHack tournaments in the country are one of the biggest esports events that take place in the country and their continued interest to hold more such events is a sign of growth for the local gaming community.

The currently ongoing DreamHack Open Summer 2020 is the third last CS:GO tournament by DreamHack which will be taking place this year. The online CS:GO tournament which is currently underway has been divided into four separate regions with Renegades already having won Oceania region.

The two remaining CS:GO tournaments that DreamHack will organize this year will be,

  • The third and final Fall RMR (Regional Major Rankings) tournament for the European region.

  • DreamHack Showdown 2020, an all-female CS:GO tournament will also take place later this year for both the European and the North American regions.
