The last Dota 2 update which came along with the Windranger Arcana was over 900 MB and contained various files. A data miner named, /u/Flam3ss found some interesting information in it.
This has lead many to believe that Diretide is set to make a return in the final quarter of 2020. Possibly on October 31 aka Halloween.
Why? Earlier in July 2020, Valve announced a Fall Call to Arms where they invited all the Dota 2 Workshop creators to dream up cosmetics for heroes themed around autumn or Halloween.
Diretide was an annual event that took place in 2012 and 2013 in celebration of Halloween.
Past Diretides featured three different stages.
Defeating Roshan rewarded players with a significant amount of cosmetics.
In October 2013, Valve sparked a backlash among DotA 2 players after they canceled the highly anticipated second annual event. After much outrage which saw numerous amount of fans spamming “Volvo giff diretide,” everywhere on the internet, Valve brought back the event for the 2nd time. Since then, there has been no Diretide event.
So understandably fans are a little excited for the game mode to make its return.
