Valve Has Added a Profanity Filter to Dota 2

  • Valve added a 'text filter' which filters out swear words.
  • A recent study published by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) revealed that Dota 2 players experience the most in-game harassment amongst all online games.

A new update from the game's developers has added a profanity filter to Dota 2.

The most recent update from Valve sees the addition of a new section in the settings called ‘Social’. In it, the ‘text filtering’ feature has been added to the game. When this is turned on, players can no longer see swear words in the game.

This option is turned on by default, so don’t be surprised if you log in to Dota 2 and start swearing at your teammates, but instead of the swear words, you only see ***.

You can turn on/off this feature by going to Settings > Social > Text Filter.

According to a recent study published by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), Dota 2 players experience the most in-game harassment amongst all online games with over 79% of the players reportedly experiencing things like physical threats, stalking, and other forms of abuse while playing the game.

So it is nice to see Valve finally take some measures against this.
