The WePlay Academy League Season 5 (WAL) is a grassroots-level CS:GO tournament which is scheduled to take place from 25th July to 14th August, featuring a total prize pool of $100,000 USD (INR 78,28,455).

This season, a total of 14 teams will compete against each other across three different stages of the tournament - Group Stage (25th July to 7th August), Gauntlet Stage (9th to 10th August), and Playoff Stage (12th to 14th August).

Similar to the last event, WAL Season 5 will be played completely online and is expected to attract a lot more viewership as it takes place during the summer player break when all other top-tier CS:GO tournaments are on a temporary hold.

Format

Group Stage

  • The tournament will kick off with the group stage where each team will play against the other following a single game round-robin format.

  • After all the matches conclude, the team standing on top of both the groups will directly qualify to the playoff stage, the next five teams from each group will move on to the gauntlet stage, and the team that finishes last in either group will be eliminated.

Gauntlet Stage

  • This stage will be following a single-elimination format where each match will be a best-of-three series.

  • It will start with the bottom two qualifying teams from each group going up against each other, the winner moving on to face the fourth ranked teams, so on and so forth.

  • The final two teams that remain standing at the end of the eliminator will be declared as the winners and shall qualify for the playoff stage.

Playoff Stage

  • The final stage of the tournament will be following a double elimination format where each match is a best-of-three series.

  • A total of four teams will be competing in this stage, two directly qualifying through the group stage and two more teams making their way through the gauntlet stage.

  • The last team that remains standing will be crowned as the champion of the WePlay Academy League Season 5.
